the problem is all the resources are in Iraq, and it was actually an honest miscalculation to send *all* resources there and leave us with nothing here. But what I don't like is that the "leaders" won't address the problem directly to the people and in the media and this sidestepping is costing lives.

Bush or somebody should just say "look, most of our guard resources are in Iraq, we are taking volunteers to help with the NO relief efforts". Sign up some volunteers (or pay people minimum wage etc)- use local cops as the management of the teams or whatever. Because the guard is not going to be able to come back from Iraq and NO is not going to "clean itself up".

Instead they act like help is on the way, but whatever help it is it will not be enough because we have nothing left here. Sheesh.
