Why wasn't it up to the state governments to take the initiative on this? How about the city government? How about personal responsibility? the mandatory evacuation was announced before the hurricane hit. Did the people who stayed think it was a joke? Every time we expect the government to protect us from the ills of the world, we will be disappointed. Some things are just not in the power of the government. Whether liberal or conservative. The simple fact is, we should blame the idjits 250 years ago who decided to put a city on the coast below sea level. That, and inertia.
