"And then have you heard about the snafu at the Astrodome?!!"

It is not a snafu. There is only a maximum that the Dome can carry for any length of time. That limit has been surpassed. Apparently there were people who hitch-hiched or carpooled to get to the Dome with the promise of being housed. The first ones were turned away, but then the decision was made to accept them. Given that, the Dome was filled before all the busses arrived. It really sucks for the people on the bus, but a place will be found for them. Maybe some of them will wind up in BCS. We welcome what we can take. And we have already taken quite a few. There are a lot more LA plates than we normally get. And we will take any that want to stay. Despite the average income being a lot less than most NOLA residents are used to...

Then somewhere along the line there was a misrepresentation either by FEMA or the media. It was believed that the Astrodome could take all 24K people at the Superdome. Even if they took people who came from other places, there were only 5K openings at the Astrodome, not 24K. And apparently, whomever was overseeing the buses did not know of that limitation.

Not blaming Houston, I am just surprised at the screwup.
