What rubbish, I spent the day, God help me, watching the news feeds, and not listening to the (mostly counterfactual) commentary. Things are getting better in New Orleans and elsewhere.

There wasn't an undamaged or unblocked road, railway or airport in the 50 miles in from the Gulf coast.

Region's communications were utterly disrupted.

All electrical power lost.

All first responders were victims of the events.

All neighbouring communities were equally damaged and so could not assist each other.

Progress has been remarkably quick under the circumstances.

The "economic crisis" is a figure of the writer's imagination. Rebuilding the area will lead to huge prosperity.

Silly, silly, silly:

That is to say nothing of the storm’s terrible toll or the economic crisis that is building. This is about the failure of authority and thus civilization in the heart of New Orleans. This is a scandal.
