I think they have filled the agencies completely with ideologicaly pure hacks so no one is capable of acting for the people's benefit.

Let he who is without "ideological hackiness" cast the first stone. And be nice to Herbert. For his day he wasn't that bad, and if it weren't for Roosevelt, or perhaps I should say the New York/Chicago machines, the anti-Hoover backlash might well have given you Huey Long... or worse. <vbg>

Speaking of Roosevelt... anybody know how much money has been moved into bonds since Friday? I am beginning to believe that THEY have been supporting the market artificially here for fear that a re-test of 2030-50 would start a full blown collapse.

Wow! Speaking of THEM... I just realized how lucky we are that the Dems weren't controlling DC when this disaster hit! If it were the Republicans preparing to "cast the stones," we might be that much closer to the ultimate military dictatorship threat!

Now you see there? Given the right motivation we can always come up with another disaster threat. <vbg>

But don't laugh to loud or long... There have been far too many calls for marshall law and military control of this situation to ignore the possibility entirely. Just imagine what would have happened if Katrina had made her appearance on the day after another "Hanging Chad" election. Ooooo... scary stuff! <Hoo><ack><Hoo>

Geeze... I just heard that the EU is offering to send us their gas. Amazing generosity... Or fear? ...Are we too big to be allowed to fail? Still its amazing to me in any case.
