I don't believe the new bankruptcy laws will prevent the victims of Katrina from filing, if they are truly victims, because they'll have no problem passing the means test.

The American Bankruptcy Institute estimates that about 85% of people who filed last year could have filed under the new laws, without a doubt -- and of the remaining 15%, they might still have been able to file, it was just impossible to tell with the data they had.

Remains to be seen, of course.

I have been thinking about contacting the Louisiana Bar Association to find out what I need to do in order to reactivate my bar membership down there. But that office is in New Orleans.
