This is such a mess I think your idea of direct donations is a great idea.

Thanks much, William. My wife and I are going to contact area restaurants, stores and businesses and see if they are willing to pitch in some help. I've come up with the concept of "Fairview Cares" cards. By giving evacuees these cards (in addition to gift cards), area businesses will immediately understand the severity of the situation and will likely offer to assist in any way they can.

The card could be good for discounts, free buffet meals or sandwiches from a dozen different restaurants, free coffee, water or showers, use of business services and discounts on whatever.

It will take some serious effort today to get it off the ground. But when completed, it can serve as a model for other cities in the South hosting literally hundreds of thousands of evacuees for an unknown length of time.

I saw where one of our readers donated to the PayPal account (info@viewresearch.com) to help kickstart the effort.

Whomever it was that sent money, thank you very much. And know that it will be used to directly assist people displaced by the tragedy and living out of their cars. . .many with no homes to go back to.
