Carolyn, They can and they did. Earthquake insurance is a very different animal.

A while back, Laz posted somewhere that private insurance companies had pulled completely out of the earthquake insurance business after the Northridge quake. That's when the State of California decided it better get into the earthquake insurance business. I don't know that Missouri would feel so compelled, however. <g> - Holly
