So let me get this straight. Appointing state officials loyal to Chavez to the nation's private banks doesn't raise any alarm bells with you? You are very trusting, aren't you?
Of course, it may not be a good thing but don't similar things go on here? Don't both parties try to influence who are on the boards of corporations? Isn't it known sometimes that a person is appointed to the BoD because they are close to the president? Don't you thing there is a strong connection between a GOP president and the captains of industry? You don't think those captains of industry influence the president and visa versa? There is no question that Venezuela is moving to left and that that is cause for some concern but it does not mean Chavez is setting up a dicatorship as you said in your post.
Let me add.........we all are conditioned to worry whenever a gov't moves to the left.....to the point where we tend to overreact. Socialism is not the boogeyman we learned to think it was growing up. Like I've said to Tim, I believe a little more socialism in this country would not hurt us. Part of the reason we are seeing the mess in NO and MS is because of the nature of our system. People are afraid and are jockeying for position because, in part, they do not feel any safety net under them. And that's because we grow up without a safety net in America. People are expected to stand on their own two feet 24/7. People think that that contributes to American ingenuity and know how......I contend it doesn't. I believe those capabilities are more innate and intuitive, maybe even genetic, on the part of some individuals. As a consequence those people who are naturals at self starting move ahead and the rest are left behind.
The problem with this system esp. for those left behind is that if anyone fails, they will fall and get trampled. We all know that instinctively. So then, when a disaster strikes and all the normal conditions are removed, people begin to lose it completely and then strike out at everyone around them. We revert back to animals at the most basic of levels....the need to survive. Those who are the weakest soon become almost catatonic, unable to move. They sit and cry, begging for help. Its awful to watch.
And since minorities start out with a disadvantage, they are most likely to feel that fear of falling and mostlikely will occupy the bottom rung of this society. Occupying the bottom rung in this country is a very bad place to be, and over time, it can make you into a very bad person. And so that's why at times like this, America looks third world..........people loose control fairly easily and begin to act like animals, looting, raping and killing.....trying to gain control over some one or some thing. The conditions that make that possible are endemic to the system.
I think its time the US became civilized. |
