"I think Houston and TX may be over doing it."

Not possible. Look, we have hurricanes, whether they go in LA or TX is a matter of luck. True Texans know this. While we might differ from LA on the actual border of the Sabine, we really feel their pain. Despite all the efforts of Dubya, we are richer than LA. We are willing to share. Black, white or(God forbid) orange isn't the issue. There are people in pain. We have to respond. It is part of our genome.

My roots in this part of Texas go back almost 200 years. The ones that survived very harsh conditions are the ones that tended to group together and that challenged the environment to do their worst. Often, the environment rose to the challenge. The environment lost. Because we are still around. True Texans have a very pragmatic approach to things, it revolves around survival. We haven't been challenged in a long time. We are challenged now. Ok, we have a Darwinnowing moment. We will be stronger as a result. Yeah, we will suffer in the short term. And yeah, that sucks. Especially for the ones on the bottom rung. But there are few choices.

You have asked me several times why I live in a regressive culture as I do. This is the reason. When things go to the wall, the culture comes down strongly on the side of survival. Plus, I am a Jonser. "Fuck you Jack, I've got mine" is not in my vocabulary.

What has happened in New Orleans will shape our society for generations. We are living through an inflection point. What we do in the next few years will determine the future.
