There's a chain of blame. The mayor, the governor, both deserve blame for forgetting that a lot of the poor, which is a lot of New Orleans, couldn't drive out and had nowhere to go. After the storm hit, the mayor's resources are pretty much gone. The state of LA, one of our poorest, can't be expected to do a whole lot THEN either. THEN, it's a national problem, a FEMA problem.
THAT's where the national blame starts, and there's PLENTY of it, from the inept Bush political appointee as FEMA director, to Bush's documented gutting of FEMA under the Department of Homeland Security, to Bush's own "I don't give a shit" response (watch the tape of him playing guitar as the storm hit), to 60% of LA's National Guard and virtually all of their helicopters and equipment being in Iraq. It's a national disgrace. This buck SHOULD stop with Bush. |
