2005 Annual Hurricane Levee Inspection
On the eve of hurricane season 2005, the Orleans Levee District's levees are declared in good condition by the Orleans Levee District's Chief Engineer, Mr. Stevan Spencer. On May 27, 2005 the Orleans Levee District accompanied by the US Army Corp of Engineers, the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development, Port Of New Orleans and officials of the City of New Orleans toured the Hurrincane Protection Levees. At the conslusion of the tour, LTC Sephen E. Jeselink, District Engineer, US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District congratulated the Orleans Levee District on an outstanding job.
Mardi Gras Fountain Reopening The Orleans Levee District has recently renovated the ailing fountain with a $2.5 million dollar project to beautify, enhance, and protect this unique and historical New Orleans' Landmark.. On May 25th, 2005 the Mardi Gras Fountain was reopened to the public with renewed benches, walkways, landscaping, drainage, and parking areas. A new promenade on the seawall was constructed, as well as a new computer controlled state-of-the-art fountain and lighting system. |
