People continue to live in Taupo [a caldera in New Zealand] and many other places, waiting for nature to come around to them.

Isn't that true of all of New Zealand, when you think about it? -g- As I remember, Napier had a very unfriendly special visit from Mother Nature a few decades ago and they rebuilt the town in the same place. They did a pretty good job of it, too, speaking as one who appreciates art deco architecture.
