Headline: Motorola Signs Memorandum Of Agreement With Chilean Paging Operator To
Supply Narrowband PCS Infrastructure

======================================================================
SANTIAGO, Chile--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1997--

Carrier Beeperland Plans To Build
Advanced Voice Paging Network In Chile

Motorola today announced a Memorandum of Agreement with
Beeperland S.A., a Chilean paging carrier, to build a Narrowband PCS
(NPCS) network to provide advanced voice paging in Chile. According
to the agreement, Beeperland will purchase all of its NPCS
infrastructure from Motorola.
Beeperland will be able to offer to its customers new NPCS
services using Motorola's Wireless Messaging System. The new
technology digitizes the voice of the person leaving a message and
sends it to a voice pager where the data is processed and the page is
heard in the actual voice of the sender. Beeperland will offer NPCS
service initially through a voice paging network in the Chilean
capital, Santiago, which will later be extended to the rest of Chile.
"We at Beeperland believe that advanced voice paging has an
extremely bright future in both Chile and South America among not
only business users, but also family members wishing to keep closer
in touch," said Ben Helsten, President, Beeperland. "We look
forward to being the first to bring this paging technology to the
region, using Motorola's reliable and high quality state-of-the-art
infrastructure. We predict a potential market as high as 600,000
subscribers in Chile," he continued.
"Motorola is pleased to have been chosen to introduce advanced
voice paging to South America," said Larry Conlee, Vice President
and General Manager, Americas Paging Systems Division, Motorola.
"Our voice paging infrastructure technology creates a whole new
dimension in wireless communications the ability to receive a page in
the caller's own voice."
In addition to supplying infrastructure to Beeperland, Motorola
will also provide systems design parameters, market research and
on-site field testing to fully enable advanced voice paging in Chile,
according to the terms of the Memorandum of Agreement. "Motorola is
committed to helping carriers attain the technical capabilities and
marketing strength necessary to thrive in the advanced voice paging
market," Conlee added.
The complete line of advanced paging solutions that Motorola
supplies for NPCS voice paging includes:

--Wireless Message Gateway(TM) paging terminal, the highest
processing capability in the industry with up to 200
pages-per-second, almost twice the speed of other suppliers' systems.
--RF-Conductor!(TM) controller, the only controller in the world
which supports FLEX one-way paging, multi-frequency FLEX
protocol-based roaming, ReFLEX(TM) two-way paging protocol and
InFLEXion(TM) for high-speed voice and data paging.
--RF-Orchestra!(TM) linear transmitter, specially equipped with
advanced voice modulation, linear PA technology and unique power
output capabilities to provide the necessary functionality for
InFLEXion voice paging.
--RF-Audience!(TM) receiver, an inbound base receiver that
"listens" to two-way pagers and delivers the return message and
message receipt acknowledgments with unmatched accuracy and
sensitivity
--The Tenor(R) voice pager, which plays messages in the caller's
voice. Up to four minutes can be stored in the pager, while an
unlimited number of messages can be stored in the network's virtual
memory, even when the pager is turned off.

Chile's paging market has experienced continued growth in the
past decade. The Strategis Group, an industry consultant, predicts
that the current number of paging subscribers in Chile will quadruple
by 2001, reaching hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Over recent
years Motorola has contributed greatly to the initiation and
development of paging in Chile by providing paging infrastructure and
pagers to the country's operators.
For the past several years, Motorola's Paging Systems Group has
been making inroads throughout Latin America. Paging systems have
already been installed in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile,
Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Peru, Puerto
Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela. Recently Motorola announced a strategic
initiative to bring two-way and advanced voice paging infrastructure
and pagers to operators throughout the region.
Motorola is one of the world's leading providers of wireless
communications, semiconductors and advanced electronic systems,
components and services. Major equipment businesses include paging
and data communications, cellular telephone, two-way radio, personal
communications, automotive, defense and space electronics and
computers. Motorola semiconductors power communication devices,
computers and millions of other products. Motorola's 1996 sales were
$28 billion.
