Christien; 7:30 AM on Monday, Ventura southbound, my mercedes idles along. What will we do when we all have 10MB/S lines. Is the rest of the infrastructure capable of the load? True they have been keeping up and the dreaded gridlock on the internet has not happened yet.(possibly due to the 'old hat' effect, where new sign-ons hog hours, and when it becomes old hat, they settle into a lesser useage pattern.
I too have heard of ASDL, and if it comes on strong then the local telcos will bring it in to avoid huge losses on lines(many have extra lines for internet) to the cable cos, esp if the implementation costs are low. It is logical to implement it in the switch, as this allows diversity and larger bandwidth.
