Unless there is a lot of "happy news" comming out of New Oreleans, or a distracting higher profile story, the mishandling of the whole Katrina affair will spinout of control in the next week or so.

Republicans calling for investigations, etc.

A large part of the support for Bush and friends is centered in the South, and this may change in the comming weeks.

The deliberate witholding of aid is comming to light, in addition to FEMA incompetence.

******

Besides the Iraq story, the other story pushed off the front page were the out of control borders, with both new Mexico and Arizona declaring states of emergency along the border areas.

None of these 3 themes are good for the Bush administration.

Katrina may push the Bush Whitehouse into a siege mentality, like Nixon during Watergate or Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky events.

Unlikely to be good for the USD.
