Its not academic at all. As I understand it, there is a significant difference in the measurement levels of hurricanes as it is with earthquakes. Therefore, the difference between a CAT 4 vs a CAT 5 is pretty substantial in impact. Bullshit alert! I have 2.5 degrees. Why do you insist on taking me on? The point I was making was the amount of damage a hurricane with windspeeds at 130 mph can do is exponentially greater than the amt of damage a hurricane at 111 mph can do even though both are CAT 3 hurricanes [see your chart]. Its the same thing will earthquakes. A point 7 earthquake on the Richter Scale exponentially does more damage than a point 6 earthquake even thought there is only one point that separates them.
