I'm drawn to compare Iraq and NO. Both had ended up worse than W's boys expected. In Iraq there was never any adjustment to plans and people died. In NO there was only an adjustment after thousands died and the game of ignoring the bad news couldn't continue due to tv. In both the admin is telling us to focus on the good news. These people are incompetent and the stench of death follows their every action. Going back to reagan there has been a demeaning of government and a drive to privatise. It has been an abject failure of policy starting with the s&l debacle to the Iraq mercenaries that are costing a fortune and giving us a black eye before the world to the utter failure of the gov to respond in a timely manner to devastation in the gulf. Dowd had it right over the weekend when she said limited government coupled with incompetence is a deadly brew.
