No, I realize that. Farming as an occupation is declining nationally. But I do think the article is hopeful, in that aware consumers support farmers well when they grow lovely produce, especially organic crops and heirloom varieties. One thing that isn't perfectly clear yet is how the end of the oil era and very expensive gasoline as it dwindles will affect agriculture. It seems like local, sustainable crops and boutique farms where the farmers can make a good profit will become even more popular. I hope the Northwest trend spreads, since the food is healthy and it is good for the environment. I think farmers must enjoy interacting with their customers directly, as well, at the farmers' markets. I know I really enjoy buying my fruits and vegetables directly from farmers.
