If the three sections of Iraq were to split into separate nations, who would take the Sunnis? They are a natural fit with Syria. They share Sunni ties, Bathism, and support for terrorism. The expertise of Syria in drug cultivation and trafficking could perhaps turn the newly merged territory into a major economic power. Of course in addition to lacking oil, the Sunni territories seem to lack enough water to do much irrigation.

The Kurds in Turkey would welcome an opportunity to live in a Kurdish homeland. They might just flee turkey and make the newly minted Iraqi Kurdistan an economic powerhouse.

The Shiite southern Iraq could indeed stand alone or form close ties with Iran. After a taste of freedom following forty years of suppression, that might force the end to the Mullah's dictatorship. That possibility is not a bad thing.
