David;
You seem to want to make this into a republican vrs democrat thing. Well there is plenty of blame to go around amongst both parties!

Instead of looking for blame, why not analysis the response as Nute Gindrich did? It was a failure of our government and to try to defend the response makes those who take this course look ridiculous.

When I think of Bush' role, I don't place blame - but I do see a leader with no vision. If for no other reason than to protect his image - he missed opportunities. I am reminded of the Presidents response after 9-11 while he sat in the chair reading to school kids and then wandered off to Kansas or wherever it was he went. In hindsight it was the masterful genius of Rudy Giuliane that was so comforting right after 9-11. This latest disaster had no corresponding leader who stepped up - and so the real actions of Bush are more glaring. I agree with Gindrich - it is time to figure out how our government failed so miserably and it is time for the republican party to pick someone with a vision!
