The night of the hurricane I said the government needed to load up and truck Amtracks (amphibious vehicles) immediately to the coast. Had they done this,

Had they done this the very materiel you're talking about might well have been another casualty.

You might think that is pretty good - but you're in one heck of a small minority.

I think it could have been a little better but probably not a LOT better. All available assets were being focused on recue operations and trying to prevent further flooding. The "food and water" was needed at the superdome, where the local governments should have placed adequate supplies to begin with.

Your response is an emotional one that does not comport analytically with the reality of the situation; it also totally ignores the scope of the problem.

It is important to keep in mind that "the fifth day" is bullshit, which is the reason I continue to point out that the media is clueless in this matter.

On Tuesday morning the media claimed New Orleans had "dodged a bullet". Three days later, on Friday, the Superdome had had tons of supplies, fully adequate, delivered, and the Convention Center (not even a designated shelter, and one that was only brought to the military's attention some 20 hours earlier) was adequately supplied with food and water. One day after that (the 4th day), almost all of the tens of thousands had been evacuated.

It just isn't reasonable to expect more than that in these circumstances.
