I thought describing your source as someone who needed to be anonymous was very broad and tactful. I am not sure why you found it strange. He needed to be anonymous here, because you couldn't quote him directly. I was not aware that I was getting paranoid; it did not feel like that to me.

Re the rest of that post, I realize New Orleans is quite a party town, and has a very high percentage of black people living in poverty. I think the abysmal school system, where people who already are not privileged are going to have a hard time getting a leg up on education, and the fact that indigent defendants in Louisiana are not entitled to public defenders, are much stronger operative factors in keeping people in poverty. The article you posted makes the dysfunction seem almost like something the poor underprivileged people like, while they are drinking hurricanes and pickpocketing the tourists or worse.

In terms of the federal response to the hurricane, I hope no one is blaming that on the poor people who lived there and didn't have any money to evacuate. It is the government that needs to step in during emergencies.
