There are not enough buses in the entire state of Louisiana to bus out 250,000 people, nor was there time. Besides, FEMA is in charge of major disasters like this one, especially in the case of New Orleans. They should have been bringing in choppers, ships and buses from all over before the storm even hit.

Also, if you want to blame local officials, why aren't you blaming Haley Barbour? There are hundreds of dead people on the Mississippi coast and it took three days to help the survivors there too. The point is, these type situations are exactly the time when cities and states absolutely need and depend on FEMA and federal disaster recovery plans. But the feds were AWOL, and the president was too.

The day after Katrina, Bush was busy making some BS speech comparing himself to FDR. And FEMA didn't even contact the military until two days after the storm hit. Where is the leadership when we need it?
