Your point 1) I think posts should be written about ideas, and not with consideration for people whom one does not know, who might imagine they are hurt by some idea or other. Why? Because it is impossible to imagine all the offenses people can take to things, especially if one is a thinker outside the mainstream.
Your point 2) I think people can be hurt by all sorts of things, including words, even words about ideas, and not about them personally, mostly because they imagine themselves to be hurt (and of course, psychologically, real and imagined harm are the same), and while I have compassion for people who are hurting, even over "ideas", (touching on point one again) I do not believe discussions of ideas should be shaped for the delicate (Although I do feel one should not discuss other posters specifically, or insult people, or even make "jokes," (and never make personal jokes) unless one really knows who one is talking to, precisely because people can become hurt by just about anything, and there really is no reason to insult people, except to insult them, while there is actually a decent case to be made for discussing ideas.)
That's what I think.
What do you think about your own question? How would you answer it? Please break it down in to point one and point two, if you would. It will be easier to follow. |
