I would much prefer robots- if they were polite robots with ideas. If people do not suppress their emotions in their posts, at least their highly negative emotions, which impede debate, and make their posts unpalatable, then I don't find I have any desire to speak to them. Which is, I guess, why I find ban and ignore so handy.
Heck, I argued, years ago, that it was a great idea to let those negative emotions out. I find I did not like the results- not on my part, and not on others. I can't fault people for feeling the way I used to, but I don't want to be around them either. I would like duct tape on all lips that intend to be personally rude- if they just want to express ideas, which are impersonal, I have no problem with that expression- though I might attack the idea.
I have seen nothing positive come out of the expression of negative personal feelings on SI, and I have seen many negatives. Since we value different things (at least as expressed in our posts), we will continue to disagree about these ideas. We obviously have different priorities. |
