Adding landfill to build up the damaged area of New Orleans seems logical.

But the cost of landfill and compacting to raise the elevation by 15 feet or so is pretty eye-popping.

Raising elevation more than 15 feet is risky. Kaufman & Broad made some developments on 30 foot fill, and the homes collapsed as the compacted ground compacted more over times, breaking the foundation of the homes.
