"TEOTWAKI" that doesn't mean waterworld I think. It means a world where China is the supreme superpower, no? :)

"burying them in the ground to be funny" I think they are in a bank vault as I think he lives in an apartment :) My Mom used to have an old English gold sovereign in a bank vault box, together with some documents like her degree diploma. I thought that was weird. Well I lost my undergrad diploma moving to the US the last time and haven't bothered to go through the bureaucracy (in Israel) of getting another one (never ship with a firm called TNT - I lost one of the grad ones too but easy to get a replacement).

I don't see the US gubbment bankrupting or hyperinflation - you don't either do you? - even if things got really bad it would be deflation as before and not hyperinflation no? that is the ONLY reason I will give mish any credit for his deflation scenario if we are to have any kind of extreme 'flation - to hyperinflate would mean the end and the guys in charge are going to do anything they can to prevent the end.

I think the worst case scenario in the near future is Japan-like stagnation for a decade or so, though it could be moderately inflationary stagnation rather than deflationary due to different preferences.

Real wealth is something productive (unlike gold) but without property rights it might not make YOU wealthy.

A question for you MOO, I remember history lessons saying in china and russia they rounded up the folks like you - the intellectuals and professors and such and executed them first - now why did these smart folks stay somewhere they could get executed? Didnt the feel the heat that was coming?

Maybe they were like the guys who want to stay in New Orleans now. They know nothing else and won't leave or don't have the resources to do so. Like the half or so of the Jewish community who stayed in Germany till the start of the Second World War. But we got out and so I am here now.

The solution is to have assets spread around the world, transferable skills in your head and eyes on the news. If that doesn't work, then the whole world has gone down and we are really in trouble :P
