International Aluminum Posts Surge in Fourth-Quarter Profit on Higher Sales

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (AP) -- Aluminum products maker International Aluminum Corp. on Thursday said its profit surged in the fourth quarter as sales rose 13 percent.
Net income for the latest quarter climbed to $4.4 million, or $1.03 per share, from $2.6 million, or 61 cents per share, last year. Sales increased to $67 million in the period ended June 30, up from $59.3 million.

International Aluminum shares advanced 55 cents to $32.86 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Over the past 52 weeks, the company's shares have traded between $26.70 and $35.74.

For the full year, the company said income surged to $12.9 million, or $3.04 per share, from $6.7 million, or $1.57 million per share, a year earlier. Sales rose 18 percent to $251.6 million year-over-year.

The company's results for the fourth quarter and full year included pretax expenses of $260,000 and $780,000, respectively, for new requirements under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which Congress passed in 2002 amid a wave of bookkeeping scandals.
