To an extent... they have always been elitist, but they were also, in the old days, generous and fair to a fault. The attitude used to be "I have made my money with the help of the sweat and hard work of other good folks, and on the American ethic of our great country. I won't abandon the people who made me what I am today".

Now it's every man for himself, labor (even "knowledge workers") is a commodity to be moved to the lowest cost producer. We've gone from a country of business owners that knew the value of every employee to a country of corporations that only know the value of quarterly eps and PR.

It's a more mean spirited country than I grew up in. But I wouldn't blame it all on Republicans... and I don't think the fanatics on this thread represent most Republicans.
