self reliance, personal initiative, and a sense of individualism They are negative traits when they are used as excuses to do nothing and watch poor people die. They are empty politician's words to excuse themselves from providing government services. Americans pays taxes almost as high as Europe. They get nearly-free health care and education. What do we get? Our tax dollars are used to kill Iraqis, steal oil, and award fat government contracts to Bush's family friends. Anyone who has a problem with any of this, well, they must just lack "self-reliance," right?
