Amazing how many copmanies are spending millions of dollars to try to capture the market for a technology that so many folks say will fail. I believe that DVD or some offshoot of DVD will be the universal media for data/video storage in the next 5-6 years. (I can hear Jonathan typing already)...

I read the WSJ article and I will simply give you my thoughts. I think the move was an attempt to stop the momentum towards DVD. IF I were the investors who had spent all that money for R & D on Divx, I would do the same thing. We all know how important the "first to market" principle can be. We also know how lack of a standard can slow progress (56k modems). I think DVD would already be a 2nd or 3rd generation accepted technology if it weren't for the greed of corporations who want to "own" rights to the technology. I am not involved in the technical aspect of DVD in any way so I simply read, study and try to look at future markets. I see DVD as a huge future market. (all IMHO)
