[ATM switching]

<<<Do you know for sure from your GTE visit or your calls to BC Tel which manufacturer's ATM switches they are using?>>>

I heard BCTel chose NN.

Amati also has ties to NN through the NN/Siemens Alliance which is the arm under which the ATM switches are being developed. At least the entire MainStreetXpress line. Since our relationship with Siemens is to work together to develop ATM over ADSL, I don't think it's much of a stretch to say they talk.

Amati's relationship to Nortel is multilayered. Somewhere back in the early days, they were partners and I believe Nortel still holds a stake in the company. They're also listed on press releases when licensing is mentioned. Apart from that, Nortel and PacBell demonstrated Amati's equipment at InterOp and Nortel alone demonstrated it at the National Broadcasters convention. I've heard hints they're doing more than that, but I don't know anything specific.

I do know Amati's equipment was sent to BellCanada along about mid-summer and I don't imagine it just fell out of the sky --- a gift of the gods. Someone somewhere had to have decided, "You know, we really should take a look at what BCTEL's chosen. . . ."

Just my take.

Thanks again for doing all the research.

Cheers!

Pat
