how was it that Mississippi and Alabama with a much wider area of devastation immediately went to work on the rescue of the people who stayed?

Because the water drained away immediately after the storm. Once the water drained, people could get to work.

Hard for you to imagine, I know.

That's ok, I don't expect people who are not from Louisiana to understand.

Not anymore, that is.

What we have there is an impossible thing to communicate, apparently.

That's OK, I don't understand earthquakes nor forest fires nor subzero weather that continues for months at a time.
