The pricipal dilator controlling erection is nitric oxide ( NO ).
NO is the fundamental mediator of relaxation of the cavernosal
smooth muscle.It does so by increasing cyclic guanidine monophosphate (cGMP),which in turn activates the muscle relaxation.In turn, cGMP
is continuously inhibited by a specific isoenzyme called phosphodiestarase type 5 ( PDE-5 ),( also known by the complex lengthy name " cGMP specific-PDE-5): this prevents men from having a
continuous erection < gg>.When an erection is desired then the body
stops production of PDE-5 and thus cGMP then is not degraded and it proceeds to cause vasodialtation of the corpus cavernosum and causes an erection
.Pfizer has developed a competitive inhibitor of this "cGMPspecific-type 5 phosphodiestarase ",called UK-92480 also known
as sildenafil or by the brand name Viagra.When you take it,
sildenafil selectively inhibits PDE-5, thus more cGMP is allowed to
be produced in the penis and you get vasodilatation and an erection.

PS I don't see any potential negatives that should be taken seriously
( such as the FDA not approving their manufacturing process, etc.).
What we need here are some Zonnagen Vivus-Bears-shorts, to come and
tell us what the potential negatives are. There are 10 million shorts out there. What are these guys doing? Don't they want Vivus to go down so they can cover their shorts? Where are they?
I call it " sleeping on the wheel"1 <gg>.
