BW)(UNISYS)(UIS) Unisys Licenses Speech Recognition Technology
from Voice Control Systems Inc.

Business Editors/Computers & Electronics Writers

BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 11, 1997--

Integrated speech recognition software complements functionality
of Unisys Network Applications Platform; delivers hands-free
access to voice messaging applications

Unisys Corp.'s Information Services Group and Voice Control
Systems Inc., (NASDAQ:VCSI), a leader in the development and
commercialization of automatic speech recognition (ASR) technology,
Thursday announced that VCS's speech recognition technology has been
integrated with the Unisys Network Applications Platform (NAP),
broadening existing network-based enhanced messaging services
worldwide.
This integration advances Unisys speech technology offerings by
expanding the number of available languages and vocabularies, and by
further improving the word recognition rate in various environments.
With the integration of VCS's speech recognition capabilities, users
will be able to maneuver through voice messaging functions with much
greater ease.
Instead of using touch-tone entries from the telephone keypad,
users will now be able to drive functions like message delivery,
retrieval, and control by simply speaking a set of commands. For
example, to review or send a message, users can simply say the words
"review" or "send message."
"Providing our customers with new revenue generation
opportunities and cutting-edge technology is in line with our
strategic plan," said Carol Sorrick, vice president of Worldwide
Marketing, Unisys Communications Market Sector Group. "The
integration of VCS's speech recognition technology with the Unisys
platform further enhances its functionality to meet the requirements
of an increasingly demanding and technology-savvy user base."
"Unisys is a leader in the enhanced services messaging market,"
commented Peter Foster, president and CEO of Voice Control Systems.
"The porting of VCS's technology to the Unisys NAP is another
milestone in bringing the next generation of features, namely the
convenience and naturalness of speech recognition, to the central
office voice messaging market."
