I agree on price. I think Apple should subsidize them for $9.99 to get people to download more songs for 99 cents. <g> But it looks like Apple is doing just fine under Jobs.

Original iPod was a brick. 40 Gigs of music to go was a bit excessive. Returned mine and bought a 512mb Shuffle for greater portability. Transition to flash memory was a no-brainer and a big boost for SanDisk and other flash suppliers. My iPod gets used mostly these days just for the software to play music for the kids on the Mac in the kitchen. I can see its usefulness for people who must commute by bus or subway. Like you, my lifestyle does not demand that I tune in and drop out for long stretches of time.

Proliferation of devices offering expanded functionality including voice and FM recording and play is more interesting. For Apple the product transition is more likely in the direction of a full blown pocket video display device since movies are something that Jobs obviously has an affinity for.
