If there are heating oil and NG shortages this winter alot of homes will think $20k for a solr system and battery pack to provide 20 days of power for a 200sq ft house is cheap.

I am talking to solar installers who are telling me that with the current increases in energy prices, particularly to heat a house, of 10-20% of late (NG) that 10% return on a solar system could be easy, even in the Northern US states.

Southern states (UT, CA, NV) have incentives that push the return over 20% p.a. A homeowners installing a $20k system has cost of $10k and savings of $150-200/mo in CA.

Remember on a cloudy day the reflective nature of the clouds can actually produce almost as much as a sunny day.

Solar panels' output is warranted for 30 years, more than the RLIs of major oil companies.

At the same time we are investing hundreds of millions drilling high impact wells we need to have a plan to roll out millions of panels.

Why?

-it creates jobs in the US, part of US energy dependence
-economies of scale will drop unit prices like a stone if we throw lots of orders at the industry
-Japan is successfully using solar on millions of grid-connected rooftops. Japan is energy constrained and we have to face up the the fact the US is too.
