Not like that! Typhoons is more a Japanese word. NZ has cyclones. But it's nowhere near like the bowling alley of regular destruction running into the southeast USA. They are just high winds here.

I wonder if people will rebuild right in the path of the next one. It's not as though nobody knows there are hurricanes coming in every year.

In NZ, foolish people build in the mouth of explosive volcanoes, on cliff tops, on flood plains, on beaches. They will act surprised when the inevitable happens. The government will act surprised too. Governments are much the same around the world. So are people.
