"The Getaway," now wasn't Alec Baldwin supposed to leave the country if bush won the 2000 election but instead Kim Bassinger got away from him? Now James Woods is in this one too and he's funny & a good poker player. Last time I saw him on Leno he was funnier than Leno.

"Valmont" has Colin Firth who seems to specialize in period pieces. Is it just me or does he seem to be the same guy just in a different suit in a different era? Ya know, aloof with that I'm too handsome to need to talk attitude. I saw him in a good movie yesterday, "The Girl With a Pearl Earring." I imagine it flopped since the tattoed braindead youth of today knows nothing of art or music, Vermeer, is that the stuff on my furniture?

Thanks for the recs, I've never seen Valmont but I put a hold on it at the library and The Getaway would be good for a rewatch. I also just watched The Quiet Man and it struck me as so odd that John Wayne spent half the movie lighting cigarettes, almost every scene he lit up and made a show of tossing the wooden match. Maureen O'Hara did the Commentary and she said the same thing and added that's what did you in old boy. The commentary they add to these old DVDs can be pretty interesting, they did a good job of it with Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

Our county library has over 5,000 videos and DVDs in their catalog. I was surprised to hear Ebert say they make more money on DVD sales than theatre release now. Then these nice folks donate their movies to the library after watching it once and we get them free :-)
