Re: The fact that Vice President Dick Cheney is heavily involved in the FEMA operations from behind the scenes is very troublesome. Cheney and his cronies at Halliburton are in line for the lucrative contracts to "reconstruct a New Orleans". Actually, I don't think it has much to do with Halliburton and the expected reconstruction spoils... The blackout on New Orleans, both literally and figuratively, aims at concealing the actual/total death toll of Hurricane Katrina. No witness, no contradictory figures/reports. Of course, you might contend that CNN just won a lawsuit vs the government that will allow the network to keep on reporting on "corpses removal" --but CNN, as part and parcel of the media-military complex, will dutifully and blindly report the official toll. The whole relief operation is now safely and firmly in the hands of the US military --just think of FEMA's new boss, Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen. Get the picture? The Bush administration has killed two annoying birds with one stone: whatever the real number of fatalities, the official toll won't exceed a few hundreds AND the US military has been offered a splendid opportunity to wash its sins away (Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, the Iraq mess) and reap all the kudos....
