There are several benchmark announcements/submissions today, from SPEC FP (and SPEC FPrate) which put it in the top 3 SPEC FP vendors with the Opteron chip to SPEC OpenMP to SPECjbb to SPECweb. All of these validate Sun's viewpoint that Opteron is a strong enterprise-grade chip in the x86 market (the Athlon64 chip was rated the fastest PC chip among the x86 offerings). Additionally, the new boxes, X2100, X4100+X4200 pack a good density, have good cooling features and make more favorable performance/power tradeoff than any other x86-compatible offering. It also doesnt hurt that X2100 has a server which is priced starting at $785. VijayT
