That's because they quit running. Ours was nicely designed for our family at the time, but the fuel system was made out of plastic tubing. It would spring leaks and spray gasoline all over the engine.

Finally, it quit on the trip into Portland for us to close on our house. The last time it stalled we were across the street from a small dealership. We went in and came out a half hour later with a different car, this time a Datsun B210. It was an OK car, but it could not stand up to my daughter rolling it before I had given her any driving lessons.
