Elmatador Re: "advanced agriculture" That is exactly the type of agriculture we practice. But agriculture runs on the "no free lunch" principle. A member of the grass family like sugar cane requires lots of nitrogen. And also phosphate, which Brazil imports from Florida.

Using up the nitrogen and other nutrients that has been stored in the soils of Brazil over the ages to produce ethanol fuel is just another way of using up a non-renewable resource. But the soil nitrogen won't last for decades, a crop or two and yields start to fall. If you have an endless amount of new ground to plant it works, but without that OR lots of chemical fertilizer the process grinds to a halt soon.

What you are doing there is really a very ancient farming practice we now call "slash and burn".

You must have the nitrogen and for that you must have fossil fuel, the worlds guano supply being long gone.
