There are a couple of approaches to restoring system restore.

A few questions..

Right click My Computer...left click Properties..when the System properties window comes up do you have a System restore tab at the top?

Have you ever reinstalled your operating system over a pre-existing XP install..to repair it?

I lost system restore for a few months and I ignored it. Finally I did a little digging around and fixed it ..

1st..

Go to...Start...Control Panel...Add/Remove. See if SP1 (XP service pack 1) is listed.

If it isn't there let me know. There are a couple of ways to fix the problem..not that hard to do if you have the same symptoms that I had.
