Most people feel this way, until they find some behavior or opinion of their own defined as bigotry. Would you want "The Last Temptation of Christ" banned because it is offensive to some folks? How about Mel Gibson's "Passion"? Should Flannery O'Connor's writing be banned because she used language no longer considered polite? How about Mark Twain? Who gets to define "bigot"? We all do, to our own satisfaction, but not everyone gets to force others into line.

Political correctness isn't about public decorum. It's about power, and its arbitrary use. It's been used to wreck careers, expel students, fire people from jobs. PC isn't some new term for polite speech in the public square, it's a tool for squelching ideas disliked by those in power. No one had to listen to Lenny Bruce unless they paid to see his show.
