Actually I don't know the affiliation of those who prosecuted Bruce, and I'm curious to know how that is easily determined 40 years after the fact. But I did mention that he was a cause celebre of liberals at the time, it's one of the reasons I used Lenny Bruce as an example. At that time liberals were defending Bruce's freedom of speech, whereas today the PC faction among them embrace the methods and rationale of those who prosecuted Bruce. Which is a point Henthoff, a prominent liberal critic of political correctness, makes. Bruce wasn't a Howard Stern using coarse language over the public airwaves. His act was in private venues, nightclubs, and he wasn't prosecuted for indecency.
