Wednesday September 14, 7:00 am ET

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 2005--Acacia Research Corporation (Nasdaq:ACTG - News; Nasdaq:CBMX - News) announced today that Acacia Patent Acquisition Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary that is part of the Acacia Technologies group, a leader in technology licensing, has acquired the rights to patents relating to high resolution optics used by the military and in commercial products.

"This is the 31st patented technology for which we have acquired rights since the beginning of the year," commented Paul Ryan, Chairman and CEO of Acacia. "Our diversification has already resulted in our receiving revenues from many different portfolios and we expect our revenue opportunities to continue to increase as we initiate licensing and enforcement campaigns for the newly acquired technologies," concluded Mr. Ryan.

These patents generally relate to refractive and diffractive systems and methods for improving imaging capabilities in multi-element optical systems by using fewer elements. The patented systems and techniques have direct applications in military imaging systems such as thermal weapon sites, as well as commercial products like camera lenses and optical printers
