I know many farmers also, they are an independent bunch, for sure. Most up here have crop insurance, so the drought won't put them out, and the majority of them are sitting on farmland worth $40 to $75k an acre, so there isn't much pain for them around here. When they get tired of the grind they sell to developers.
I did it with the land I owned.

As for hedging, Joe $6 Pack will wish he could hedge his natgas heating bill this coming winter...
