Elmatador Re: "critic of the US state" Me too, Elmat. I don't like it a bit that my country has become the seat of a vast global empire and that we have become the world policeman. Probably a considerable majority of Americans feel this way. But this is nothing new and "global empire" been a work in progress for nearly 100 years. I think it is a mistake to place too much emphasis on the "American" aspect of this empire, many of its secret manipulators hail from London, Tel Aviv and probably by now, Beijing.

Our Constitution doesn't require that we go on any crusades to "save the world" or stick our nose into the affairs of any other nation. It is just not the proper constitutional role for the American government. Advocates of "American Empire" can point to the apparent success of the scheme. But this is to ignore the vast danger the world was placed in during the Cold War and to likewise ignore the very many close calls with Nuclear Armageddon that we survived. The reason we are able to even have this dialogue is not due to some genius on the part of the founders of the Empire but just pure dumb luck (or Divine Providence, take your pick). This Empire is as reckless as any other empire of the past.

American Constitutional government is still the best there is, in my opinion. And when it comes to local governance, things still operate in a manner that is amazingly close to the Founders original design. Now, if we can just put American foreign policy and the federal courts back under the Constitutional yoke my country will be a much better place in which to live.
